Yey, Chemistry!
Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ Gases and moles
Today in class we went over gases and moles. We also learned about STP. The volume occupied by a certain gas depends on the temperature and pressure. STP stands for Standard Temperature and Pressure. Temperature = 0 celsiusPressure = 101.3 K pascal. The pressure of any gas at STP is:

-22.4L for every mole (ss.4L/mol or 1mol/22.4L

Ex: Find the volume (L) occupied by 0.060 mol of CO2 at STP:
0.060 mol x 22.4 L/1mol = 1.344L = 1.3L

Ex: Find the volume occupied by 3.60 Kg of Fluorine at STP:
3.60 Kg x 1g/0.001 Kg = 3600Kg
3600g x 1mol/38.0g = 9407386mol
